Strada del Vino del Soave

The “Soave Wine Route” represents an evocative trip among vineyards, churches and castles through the area which produces the famous wine that gives its name to this splendid strip of land around Verona. Little more than fifty kilometres in all, it takes in the thirteen municipalities which produce the most esteemed DOCG cru.

Thanks to its favoured geographical position, the enormous historical/monumental importance of its artistic treasures in the vicinity of the great lines of communication which practically outline it to the South, (State Road 11, the Milan-Venice Railway Line) the “Soave” area is attracting increasing tourist interest. Being a stone’s throw from Verona and Lake Garda, it is an ideal reference point for those wishing to discover the area surrounding Verona and learn something about its history and traditions.
Lovers of art and culture can admire not only the beautiful landscapes or the largest vineyard in Europe in terms of size – 6,600 hectares – but also wonderful Romanesque churches, villas, castles and museums.
Much has also recently been done towards the rediscovery of the land’s typical gastronomic dishes and traditional culture of hospitality. For their part, the grape-growing concerns and cooperative wine growers’ associations have most decidedly set their sights on quality, involving investments of a conspicuous size. While most of the local authorities have shown a great awareness towards rediscovering the area’s historical traditions, a good five Municipalities have joined the Città del Vino Association. Both old and new cultural institutions are working in order to offer ever more high quality events strongly linked to the religion.
The Lessini Durello DOC Wine, the Monte Veronese DOP Cheese, the shepherds’ cheeses of Lessinia, the Valpolicella DOP oil from the hills around Verona, the Mora cherries of Cazzano, the chestnuts of San Mauro IGP, the peas from Colognola, the Soave ham, the various types of salami, the Pandoro cake from Verona, are all products which by themselves deserve a trip to the Soave country.
